Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 13, 2026

This policy explains what information is collected when you use Ship Run at ship-run.world, and what happens to it. Ship Run is a free, non-commercial fan game made by GD Interrobang ("I", "me").

The short version

1. Information saved on your device

To make the game work, Ship Run saves a few things in your browser's local storage (not cookies):

This information stays on your device. I can't see it, and it is not sent anywhere. You can delete it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Downloading a levels file or copying level text also happens only on your device.

2. Visitor statistics (GoatCounter)

I use GoatCounter to see how many people visit and which parts of the game they use. When the page loads, and when you start a run, start Practice, finish a level, open the level editor or test a level, your browser sends GoatCounter:

GoatCounter turns this into totals per hour or per day, such as "12 visits from Canada using Firefox". According to GoatCounter's privacy policy, it does not store IP addresses, full browser identification strings or any tracking ID, and it does not put cookies or anything else in your browser. To avoid counting the same visitor twice, it keeps your IP address and browser information in memory only, for up to 8 hours, and never writes it to disk. Your country is worked out from your IP address and only the country is kept.

GoatCounter is run by Martin Tournoij in Ireland and stores its data on servers in Finland and Germany. It does not share this data with anyone. If you block GoatCounter (for example with an ad blocker), the game works exactly the same.

3. Hosting (GitHub Pages)

Ship Run is hosted on GitHub Pages, run by GitHub, Inc. Like every web server, GitHub receives your IP address and browser information when you load the site, and GitHub logs visitors' IP addresses for security purposes. I don't have access to those logs. See the GitHub Privacy Statement for how GitHub handles this information.

4. What I do not do

5. Children

Ship Run is a game anyone can play, including children. It has no accounts, forms or chat, and it does not ask for or knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The only information involved is the technical information described in sections 2 and 3, which is used only to count visits and to run and secure the site, never for advertising or to build a profile of anyone. If you are a parent or guardian and have a question, please contact me (see below).

6. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Ship Run does not track visitors across websites and does not sell or share personal information, so browser "Do Not Track" and Global Privacy Control signals do not change what is described here.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the EU or UK GDPR, or US state privacy laws), you may have the right to ask what personal information is held about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. Because I don't collect information that identifies you, there is normally nothing I can find or link to you. You can still contact me with any question or request and I will answer it. If you are in the EU or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Where the GDPR applies, the legal basis for the visitor statistics and the security logging is legitimate interest: understanding how the site is used and keeping it running safely, in a way that does not identify anyone. The information saved on your device is strictly necessary for the game features you choose to use.

8. Changes to this policy

If what Ship Run collects changes, I will update this page and its effective date.

9. Contact

For questions or requests about privacy, open an issue at github.com/comazzisasha/ship-run/issues. Issues are public, so please don't include personal details there; say that you'd like to talk privately and I will reply with a way to do that.
